Meet the Creator

Me and my dog Louis ("Lewie")

Kevin riding a silly horse
Hi, I'm Kevin Olson. I'm a developer, web designer and graphic designer living in Colorado Springs, CO, originally from southeastern Pennsylvania. I've been coding since I was about twelve, when I started building things in creative games like Roblox and Minecraft. I studied computer science through Oregon State University's online program, and while I have the most experience with Java, my favourite languages are JavaScript and PHP.
I like switching between technical and creative work: writing code one day, making infographics, icons and videos the next. Away from the keyboard I love dogs (especially my dog Louis, or "Lewie"), exploring the mountains with my family, and survival games like Valheim and Enshrouded.
Why I Made This Site
I've always loved teaching and sharing what I know, and I believe education should be free and accessible to everyone. I wasn't a great programmer at first. I got better by working through computer science eBooks, tutorials and videos that other people shared for free. CommonDocs.org is my way of paying that forward: clear, thorough guides on programming, web design, math and science that anyone can use, whether they're learning on their own or taking a course that relies on open educational resources instead of expensive textbooks.
I published the first version in 2021, when it had a grand total of about three visitors. Since then it has grown to more than 140 guides and moved from Joomla to WordPress to the custom platform you're using now. If you need help with something, want to hire me, or just want to say hi, get in touch. You can also read more about me.
